There are certain moments in years of terrific cinema that simply leave you speechless. It could be the abundance of magic in La La Land, or the blood and gore in Deadpool, or the symbolism in Get Out. Today, the latter of the three was showcased once again in a growing little foreign film called “Parasite”.

Coming right off the heals of another buzzing foreign masterpiece (Roma), this movie is truly something to behold. Like Get Out did with themes of racism, Parasite deals with themes of the battle against low and high class societies. If you thought “Joker” took on rich vs. poor in a great way, you clearly haven’t seen the best of what’s to come. Parasite makes Joker look like Pluto Nash, and I don’t say that lightly. The story is subtle, but so perfectly original and well written. The surprises and thrills keep coming and keep building on another like a giant janga tower, and the more you see it build, the more you notice one little move will send this entire 100 foot tower crashing down. I can’t say anything else about the story except that you will have to watch out and keep your eyes ready and wide open.

As if the story weren’t enough, the acting is spectacular, the cinematography is colorful and composed to a crafted gold status, and some of the iconic moments born from this movie deserve the title of iconic on the level of “The Shining” good.

This is a foreign movie, yes, but do not let the words “Korean” or “subtitles” turn you off. After all, it did win the Palm d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival. Parasite is one of the most perfect movies of the decade as it’s not only a film that’s genuinely entertaining and technically spectacular, but it will get you thinking about what you just saw days after you leave the theatre. It is a marvel to behold and honestly I can’t even believe how something can be this good. But it must be seen to be believed.

Two Nebs Up!
