"Captain Marvel" Review - One Glowing Example Of The Future

First thing’s first, I’m disappointed that the title of the movie didn’t appear in the beginning and merge with the Marvel Studios Logo. Opportunity missed. But boy did Marvel have a great opener for the film (you’ll see).

Captain Marvel, the 2nd to last installment in this almost finished season of the MCU, continues to make superheroes great again. Unfortunately, that’s really all there is to it. To me, Marvel Movies, feel like Steven Spielberg movies; yes, they rock, but you also know exactly what you’re going to get after a while, even with an occasional hit. The story and magic of these movies wasn’t really to the best of it’s abilities this time around. Maybe it’s because we’ve gotten so many awesome Marvel films or maybe we’re all just excited for Endgame. All of your classic fight scenes and badass actors are there, and they are wonderful. But the story felt very predictable and while it did have it’s unique moments, I could see some shocker and badass moments coming from a mile away. While I also give credit to the costume department for giving the Skrulls a real green costume that’s so unbelievably detailed and gorgeous, most of the CGI bugged me more than usual. There’s a sequence toward the end that reminded me of how bad Black Panther’s final fight scene was. And Carol Danvers (and that crazy cat) deserve better than that. There are other strange decisions more related to the overall MCU connection that puzzled me, but that would head into spoiler territory.

In the end, it’s a great Marvel film and I really did enjoy it; but even Black Panther was better than this, even for all the faults that movie had. The one major silver lining is Brie Larson. She will truly blow you away as she’s the saving grace of this MCU as an actress, as a structured superhero, and as a a savior for the Avengers. Seriously, Thanos…is…SCREWED.

One Nebs Up!
