"On The Basis Of Sex" Review - RBG Lite

There’s not a lot to say about “On The Basis Of Sex”. Not in a bad way or a good way. It simply is just a very well done film that’s definitely worth seeing at least once. There’s nothing fresh or new about it, and while it may drag a little bit with certain less important scenes, Mimi Leder does a great job at tackling an important part of RBG’s life through a heartwarming script and an amazing ensemble. Armie Hammer is great even though I could never picture him as RBG’s husband, but Felicity Jones does an incredible job at the badass Supreme Court justice.

I think the best part about this movie is just that it doesn’t hammer on the feminism factor right in front of your face. The simple telling of the landmark case explored in this movie highlights that factor all by itself. The film explores everything from the family life to the lawyer life in a very exquisite way and is overall a very fun and interesting movie to witness.

Again, there’s nothing truly eye-popping about it aside from the last scene of the movie which I’ll leave spoiler free; but I think it’s good enough for the audience to talk and discuss about with their fellow peers after the credits roll. If you really want an incredible film about Ruth Bader Ginsberg, I highly suggest the CNN documentary, RBG. It’s one of my favorite docs of 2018 and somehow the story of her life is even more fascinating when told by the woman herself and the amazing doc team at CNN. But whatever movie you see, at least go see one of them. RBG’s name must not be stained by republicans. We have to remember her name, not just because of her age, but because of her significance. “On The Basis of Sex” may not be crazy entertaining, but it sure highlights the significance.
