"Creed II" Review - Another Round Survived

Much like Rocky II, Creed II doesn’t match the magic that the predecessor had before it, but still manages to be a solid sequel that has a heartwarming script, amazing acting, and some very badass fight scenes. Also, you can’t beat the sound of that Rocky theme in the middle of a sports match

The first Creed was somewhat of a big surprise, as it gave a whole new take on the Rocky franchise, while still honoring what made the Sylvester Stallone story so memorable to generations and beyond. It was also another Ryan Coogler masterpiece that had some unreal cinematography and direction that is hard to find in any millennium. Without Ryan Coogler’s magic, this sequel only stands out to a certain degree. There’s a lot more soap opera like drama that works in some places, but gets too sappy in others. Everything ranging from the camera work to the craft of the story is great, but not nearly as great as it should’ve been. I appreciated that Stallone decided to make this more of a sequel in itself to Rocky IV, which made it a little more entertaining. Plus, it helps hammer home the themes of the importance of family and looking back on the past.

If you’re looking for a great Rocky-like movie, you’ll get it for sure. But somewhere along the line, these movies will have to end. You can’t entertain an audience with just an incredible boxing match forever; even if it has already been 7 or 8 movies.
