"Mid90s" Review- Grinding For A First

“Mid90s” is one interesting piece of work. There was a lot that I loved about it, like the cast, and the grainy yet unique cinematography, but there was also a good handful that I didn’t like. But one thing’s for sure, for a directorial debut who’s probably best work today is either Superbad or This Is the End, what a huge surprise.

You can tell by watching this that Jonah Hill put so much of his love into this little indie project. The accuracy of the 90s shines through the skateboarding, the music, and the honest friendships being built behind the talented as hell young kids. The plot is razor thin, and it can very much feel a bit weird and even illegal, especially with the constant laziness of the script, but overall, the film manages to pack a punch at being a truly nice character study. It doesn’t have too much more to it besides being unique in many different areas, but it’s an indie flick that passes in my book.

I’m looking forward to seeing more of what Jonah Hill brings to the future, as while this may not be perfect, he sure has got talent to show to the world.

One Nebs Up!
