“Deadpool 2” did not hold anything back!
I needed time to process what I thought of this sequel, because I was debating if it was better than the first one. But I have the perfect way to describe it. The sequel is the better movie, but the first one is the better comedy.
The first thing I said to myself once I walked out of the theatre was I liked the humor of the first one better. But with that comes two things to know. One, the first film had so much to work with in terms of 4th wall comedy, and that’s how it ended up being one of my favorite movies of last year. The humor carried the simple story. This time around though, the story actually carries the humor if that makes sense. Okay, it may not. But the plot in this film actually has way more heart and soul than I ever expected. It’s got some punches to the gut, some punches that are even quite sad. But the focus on the writing actually ends up making this film so enjoyable and awesome, which is something I thought I’d never say about a movie with…well…DEADPOOL!
Now that’s not to say the comedy is bad. This follow up still has the humor coming out swinging. It’s got jokes ranging from My Little Pony to the DC Universe that just had me in tears. The first film did had more fully fleshed scenes that made you cry of laughter, but this movie still has it’s handful of those kinds of scenes that you just have to see for yourself.
Along with the humor and the classic acting by Ryan Reynolds, Josh Brolin, etc, you can tell the budget for this film was stepped up, as the action and the CGI is so much better than the first one, which elevates Deadpool 2 to a much higher standard.
So in other words, yes, you are going to have a hell of a blast. It’s a sequel that may just be as good as the first, and whether you care about story or comedy, rest assured, this film will please you at maximum effort.
Oh, and stay for the mid credits scenes. ALL OF THEM. Just trust me.
