There’s no good way I can start a review about a Wes Anderson movie. I mean, you know what you’re paying for, right? LOL!
Anyways, “Isle of Dogs” is one hell of a unique film. The animation is just as stunning as “Fantastic Mr. Fox” if not better, and the voice cast, some of them regular Anderson occurring actors, all just killed it.
It’s overall not my favorite Wes Anderson film, and I still think Mr. Fox is the best Wes film, but it’s just as much of a classic as films like Grand Budapest and Moonrise. I think what really turned me off was that half the dialogue was in Japanese, which is very off-putting even for someone like Wes Anderson. But the story is very heartwarming, it serves a great honor to all dogs alike and it’s got that classic cheesy humor you’d expect from a guy like him. It also has many surprising and wonderful themes that reflect on the Trump era, which is amazing because this film probably started being made long before Trump was elected into office.
Overall, while it’s not my absolute favorite, you’ll still have a blast. It’s got everything you’d expect and some more. I will never get tired of Wes Anderson’s movies. His directing may be bonkers, but he’s the most original director we’ve got in this damn age. I’m proud to live in a time where these kind of risky films exist.
