“Darkest Hour” is an overall great dramatic biopic with terrific writing and a a great attention to detail when it comes to WWII.

It wasn’t perfect, as there were some moments that felt very cliche or sappy, and some of the cinematographic was way too basic for a movie of such huge proportions. Also, the trailers for this movie showed off all the best moments. Anything that is not in the trailer is either very slow, boring, or simply not needed at all. But the trailer scenes in their full capacity and some other scenes made this film so entertaining. I think it's just hard to impress me with a biopic nowadays since there have been SO MANY released in the past few years.

I think without Gary Odlman, I wouldn’t give two shits about this film. I didn’t think there would be anyone that would give a better Churchill performance than John Lithgow in “The Crown”. But Jesus does he bring it. Oldman's probably at about equals if not better than John Lithhgow, and that’s saying something.

If you love history and great performances, this will be perfect for you. Yet, it’s also the perfect type of Oscar bait. I mean, this film is simply the 3rd part of a badass awards season biography about WWII. “Darkest Hour” perfectly ties in with “The Crown” and “Dunkirk”. Now I kind of want a Netflix series on that.

One Nebs Up!
