"Battle Of The Sexes" Review - Barely Brakes The Serve

"Battle Of The Sexes" ended up being a better movie than I thought it would be, but still misses the mark on making a lasting impact.

The acting is terrific, and the way they the direction takes you back to the 1970s is wonderful, but the problem is the movie's title was misleading. Literally a third of the film is about the actual Battle of the Sexes, and the other two thirds are about Billie Jean's lesbian love life. That's what really annoyed me. The movie could've spent so much time exploring the impact of this historic event kind of like how "American Crime Story" did. But instead, the story was all wrapped around Billie Jean King's love life. I'm not saying that's not a worthy time of her life to explore, but the movie could've easily been cut down to an hour and a half if the director was so desperate to make that part of the story. Because it felt so slow and way too long.

But the moments that stand out boy do they do so. I think it's an inspiring story, and one that we need in these times of talk about sexual abuse. But I just wish it could've been better. It truly had the potential to be more than just a biopic.
