So while on my plane ride to Chicago, I rented “Logan” on my iPad. Look, I know I’m very late, but I have never seen the X-Men films. They were the only Marvel franchise I never got into. But Logan is easily one of the best superhero films of all time. I haven’t watched a superhero film in this type of scope since The Dark Knight.
For starters, I have never seen such a range of performances where I feel like everyone deserves an Oscar. Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Stephen Merchant, Boyd Holbrook, and motherf**king Dafne Keen all burn every single drop of gas they have and put their hearts into everything from the violence to the sheer acting.
Along with that, the direction is pure gold wit incredible lighting, cinematography, and editing to give Logan the gritty and bold feel it truly deserves in every single unique scene. Boy does the direction also blend so well when it comes to the brilliant as hell action sequences.
Obviously you don’t need to know any of the X-Men films to get this. It stands fully on it’s own, and it’s one of those films that will be remembered for not only being a stand alone story in terms of it’s technical aspects, but also for it’s beautiful touching story about family and life as we truly know it.
Fox’s Marvel has now two true winners to be proud of. And even though these winners are small in promotion compared to Disney’s Marvel, boy are they more memorable than anything Disney’s Marvel has put out.
