Okay “Get Out” is freaky as shit. But its an amazing freaky as shit film. I think what impresses me more so than the cast (whom all are incredible, especially Daniel Kaluuya, and the cinematography is the sheer storytelling.

People who know me know that I don’t like horror, But also that’s not really true. I like what I call “true horror”, and what that is exactly is gut turning storytelling with scares and suspense all spread across the page like sprinkles on ice cream. It doesn’t include bullshit jump scares or forceful nonsensical plots, or dumb hot women in tight panties to pleasure the male audience. It’s films that build off what made the first “true horror” film, “Psycho” so magnificent. I don’t like horror films nowadays because there’s nothing made like that anymore. Plus, I literally can’t watch these kind of films in a theatre because my ears hate loud jump scares. That’s why it took me so long to see “Get Out”.

But this film manages to get a solid A on every element that I consider true horror. The suspense kills you throughout the entire plot, the rapid page turns come at you like a ton of bricks, and the story messes with your head as much as the main character’s. All while being consistent and truly well directed by Jordan Peele. In my opinion, it joins the ranks of “true horror”, but up there with the greats like Psycho, The Shining, Carrie, Jaws, Poltergeist, Silence of the Lambs, you name it.

This is what scary should feel like. Physically and mentally, you feel freaked out. But not as if you just had a heart attack, but as if you feel like you’ve been changed. Even for just a moment.

Two Nebs Up!
