"Wonder Woman" Review - Wonderous In Every Way

Well my friends it’s true. “Wonder Woman” kicks all kinds of ass. It is pretty phenomenal. While it doesn’t quite reach the comic book cinematic masterpiece like “The Dark Knight”, it surely is the best DC film since that faithful film in 2008.

I had every right to be nervous about this because of the two disastrous films that came before it, and I decided if Wonder Woman was not good, I was going to give up on DC films forever. I think probably besides Superman, Wonder Woman is my favorite DC superhero.

I’m happy to say this film did not disappoint one bit. It’s got the humor of the first Thor film, the adventurous yet easy storytelling of the first Iron Man, and the action sequences of “The Winter Soldier”. Unlike Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman takes hone of one simple consistent story and earns a wonderful cast to go along with it that includes Robin Wright, Chris Pine, and David Thewlis.

The fight sequences are pretty phenomenal as the Zach Snyder directing is mostly stripped away (still hate those slow motion shots) to give us some colorful, warful, yet epic scenes that are only enhanced by Patty Jenkins’ marvelous directing. It also helps that Gal Gadot is a real goddess at acting, and is probably one of the rare people that include JK Simmons, RBJ, Chris Evans, and a couple of others that are able to pull the comic book character off the pages and onto the big screen. It’s an extremely difficult fleet to accomplish, but boy did Gadot crush it.

Lead female superheroes are nothing new to the medium of entertainment. Heroes like Agent Carter, Jessica Jones, and Supergirl all have proven that women can dominate as superheroes to a general audience. Wonder Woman is not the first female hero to hit the live action entertainment medium, but obviously she is the first for the film world. Thankfully, “Wonder Woman” doesn’t need the “first woman of blah blah” sentence to anchor how great this movie is. “Wonder Woman” is phenomenal because it just is. I find it more impressive that Patty Jenkins is one of only a few women to direct a film over $100 million. If anything is proven with this glorious superhero film, it’s that when creating a masterpiece, gender does not need to be in play. Incredible directing can come from anywhere.

Well done WB, Gal Gadot, and Patty Jenkins. Now just don’t screw up Justice League please.

Two Nebs Up!
