“Sausage Party” was not as funny as I expected, but it’s still an amazing satirical film that makes fun of Pixar movies so well!
Seth Rogen movies have always been a hit or miss for me. Some movies he does are really well rounded humor that has me laughing for years like “This is the End”. Then, there are others that just rely on pot and sex jokes to run the comedy. Believe me, I don’t mind a drug or sex joke here and there, but do it too much, and you’ll end up like Amy Schumer. And no, that's not a compliment to me.
Thankfully, this movie has got a good chunk of incredible satirical jokes and many offensive jokes. I’m one of the very few people who likes offensive jokes because I don’t go all PC Principal when it comes to good comedy. Remember, I grew up on Mel Brooks and Looney Tunes like comedies, so my bar for a good comedy is set very high. But I managed to laugh a lot! The problem is that this movie is filled with SOOOOO MANY sex jokes. I mean, the 2 main characters are a weiner and a bun. You pay for what you get. So ultimately after a while, some of the jokes just ended up being very lame.
Some pros though, the story is amazing! I’m glad Columbia took a chance on this, because while it may not be the best, it’s an original, creative, and pretty funny idea! The animation is pretty awesome too for it not being a Pixar movie. Finally, Alan Menken, thank god for him deciding to join this movie. Alan composing the score for this alone makes for a pretty funny ride!
In the end, I would say I really enjoyed it, but it’s not a gut busting comedy for me. That’s just my anal sense of humor, I’ll admit. I’m not really sorry though. The comedy today with the exception of South Park just plain sucks. But it’s defiantly very enjoyable and pretty funny to a certain level!
Oh, and one last thing. You are not ready for the last 10 minutes. Trust me on this. YOU…ARE…NOT…READY. The last 10 minutes are probably the reason why this movie was close to being NC-17, and that’s saying something.
