"The Little Prince" Review - One Magical Ride (no Disney added)

I am finally back on watching movies after a 2 month hiatus. As the Olympics drew near, I watched a little film on Netflix called “The Little Prince”. This was an animated movie I had kept hearing about since last year and frankly after the trailers, one I have been eager to see for so long.

This is truly one of the best animated films I have seen in a long time. If anything, it’s probably THE best non-Disney animated film in my opinion. For a movie that’s not American, nor Disney, nor Pixar, “The Little Prince” takes a huge step when it comes to storytelling through the power of animation. The story is one that has struck tones with many ages alike for a long time, but it takes what makes movies like “Big Fish”, “Peter Pan”, and “The Wizard of Oz” so great, and adds a completely new layer of love, heartbreak, and sheer force that make itself stand out upon any type of “I don’t want to grow up” type story.

The voice cast is top notch perfect. With voices like Jeff Bridges, Paul Rudd, and Rachel McAdams, the depth of each emotional scene is steeped up as if you were watching an Oscar worthy drama. The writing is creative, yet meaningful, as is the magnificent score by the always worthy Hans Zimmer.

What drives this film home is the animation. It’s not Pixar quality, but it’s different, and something more meaningful and creative. Combining 2-D, CGI, and stop-motion animation, every single scene is told in a different flavor, and it enhances the power of the movie by a hundred miles.

I would say this is the best animated film of the year, but we’re not quite there yet. After all, “The Little Prince” only proves that animated films in 2016 are kicking major ass. With Zootopia, Finding Dory, and the upcoming Kubo, Storks, and Moanna, the best animated feature Oscar is going to be insanely tough to decide. But this film needs to have a place in everyone’s hearts no matter how many awards it wins.

Go to Netflix, and watch this movie NOW. I know it’s all about Suicide Squad, but please take an hour and 40 minutes and watch.

Two Nebs Up!
