"Zootopia" Review - A Surprise Hit Well Deserved

"Zootopia" is beyond fantastic. It's in my top 5 Walt Disney animated films of the 21st century, up there with Emperor's New Groove, Wreck It Ralph, Tangled, and Princess and the Frog.

What makes this movie so special is that it's not a princess movie, nor a true love movie. It's a movie about real heroes, feminism, and the fears we have with the state of our world. It's an important film to see in 2016 especially with an election year in our midst. The characters are absolutely lovable, the writing is extremely funny, and the animation/settings are flat out gorgeous, believable, and delicious eye candy all at the same time.

What I appreciate most about "Zootopia" though is that it's a cliche story done right. We've all seen this kind of movie before. It's filled with cliches that entertainment like "Agent Carter" has done before. But the story is still filled with some crazy twists and is written so originally that it stands out as it's own unique film. Many movies with animal dominated worlds have tried to be taken seriously but have failed miserably (I'm looking at you Chicken Little). "Zootopia" manages to balance the animal world with a mixture of animal traits and human personalities, and is able to stand out overall as very relatable to any kind of species, yet still put out so many great themes.

PLEASE GO SEE THIS FILM. You will not regret it. Also, there's a full on spoof of "The Godfather" which is pure brilliance.
