So I saw “Miles Ahead” last night, and let me tell you something. This movie is so smooth and truly beautiful. There were a few director decisions related to music and pacing here and there that I thought were a little iffy, but overall, this was just the perfect film to salute such a great jazz legend. The writing and detail of every shot is flawless, and the attention to detail when it came to the fingerings of the trumpets and music terminology was sublime. It’s filled with jazz through and through and the film reflects the mood of this jazz through every second of the story, and that’s why this movie had near to no problems with me.
I learned from the Q&A that this movie took 10 years to fully surface. The movie was 8.5 million dollars, and free production and shooting was only 6 weeks! 2-3 of which Don Cheadle was out filming Civil War! I honestly cannot believe the hard work that was put into this for a film that is seriously so wonderful. I highly recommend it. It will please all music lovers to the core, and non-music people will still get a kick out of it.
Final thought. Don Cheadle deserves an Oscar. HANDS DOWN. If the academy wants to fix their diversity problem while still recognizing achievement in a film, they nominate Don for a god damn Oscar.
