"The Good Dinosaur" surprised me in the sense of how forced it was. The characters and voices are great, and the animation and settings are so stunning, but the writing was just not "good" at all. What drives most of the story is deus ex machinas, and after a while, these ex machinas just get so annoying. The movie had good intentions, but didn't fully take these intentions seriously enough to be a classic "Pixar" film. Kids will love it for sure, and it's really beautiful to watch if anything else.
The one thing you should know is that Pixar is still magnificent ar movies. After all, they probably have more masterpieces than any other studio (including "Inside Out" this year), so they're allowed to have simply an okay movie once in a while. Plus, Andrew Stanton, Lee Unkrich, John Lassener, and Brad Bird are helming the next few movies. So Pixar is and always will be in good hands, but for now, just rent/buy "Inside Out". I still believe that is one of the best Pixar movies ever made.
