"Room" Review - A Slow Yet Passionate Work of Survival

I went into "Room" with some good vibes. This was a movie I actually heard from many film major friends of mine. People raved to me how this is the best film of the year. Well...I disagree.

Now before you automatically jump to conclusions, let me just say this movie is great. But it has a problem that bugs me about a lot of independent movies. It cuts scenes that I want to get into more, and it extends scenes where I could give less of a shit about. Because of the scene imbalance, the movie fails at least for me, to grasp my attention the entire way through.

What lacks in scene structure though, is made up for by some gut wrenching acting by Brie Larson and the entire cast and some beautiful cinematography. Adding the heartbreaking and well written story to that, it will, as Tommy Wiseau says, TEAR YOU APART LISA.

So in the end, a great well done beautiful film. However, like "Selma" last year, it's going to be ridiculously overrated.
