Boyhood: This movie is not only a piece of brilliant filmmaking, but a historic film as well. There's a reason why this movie has 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. In case you haven't heard of this movie, this follows Patricia Arquette and Ethan Hawke as parents, a huge cast of different characters, and a 6 year old boy, from 2002-2013 and the cast is all the same. You literally watch a 6 year old boy grow to a college kid before your very eyes.
The only beef I had with this film was that it was too long (almost 3 hours), but it goes by much faster than "Wolf of Wall Street". You watch these characters and you forget about time because you are so addicted to the beauty known as life. It's especially a huge nostalgia trip for people born before 1995.
But more importantly, the 6 year old kid known as Mason is so magnificent that it is impossible to not relate to him at least once in this film. The script is written so beautifully and the characters are created so well in these 12 years that you are just addicted to see what happens next. The movie is also filmed so beautifully and that just adds to the emotion you get from watching these kids and adults grow up. Basically everything a film needs is created and blended so well that it feels like eating a piece of Chocolate Lover's cake at Costco.
It is not only one of my favorite films of this year, but one of my favorite movies in the past decade. If you have a chance, PLEASE go see this film. It will seriously move you and have a huge impact on you. In the age of computers and technology, it's so great to see a simple movie with a budget of 2.5 mil be so incredible. I commend you Richard Linklater.
